By special invite, the Pirelli National Superstock Series supported the MotoGP British Round at Silverstone for another year.
With only one free practice session all weekend for the Superstock boys at Silverstone, spectators saw the number #18 and #44 TAG Fireblades take to the track for a short but sweet 30 min session, finishing in P6 for Matt Truelove, and P10 for Shaun Winfield, with a 2:07.397 and 2:08.765 respectively.
Qualifying on Saturday was a rollercoaster. Matt secured a heroic front row start from P3 with a mega lap time of 2:06.483. Shaun struggled in the session due to setup changes, leading him to qualify lower down the order in P16. Disappointing, but he always did love a fight through the pack!
Race 1 of the double-header weekend took place at 18:00, hampered by some mental-drizzle over the 3.6 mile circuit; however it was declared a dry race. From the front row, Matt got a great start not only maintaining 3rd, but having a nibble at 2nd, until a crash involving another rider brought out the safety car. The gap that Matt had created from the group behind was neutralised, with the top 15 grouping back up behind the safety car. Seven laps of racing later and Matt came home in 5th place, but not before recording his fastest lap around Silverstone on the 8th lap. Shaun, chomping at the bit after his qualifying, knew a fight was to be had, but didn’t get the start he wanted as the lights went out. After the safety car, Shaun had a second chance and made up plenty of places to return to the garage with a points finish.
Race 2 – Simply lovely! What a venue to secure a podium finish! From 5th on the grid, Matt fought hard throughout the race to secure 3rd place after a battle with Josh Owens for the final podium spot. Shaun also made up ground, securing another points finish after a tricky weekend.
