Donington Park Round 10 24-25-26 September 2021

The Brands Hatch GP circuit once again plays host to the final round of the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship this weekend, with Shaun Winfield aiming to round off what has been a troublesome year on a high at his favourite circuit on the calendar.

Following on from a solid weekend at his home circuit last time out, where the 28-year-old made significant progress with his Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP in both wet and dry conditions, the Ashby based rider heads to Kent full of confidence.

The teams’ first visit to the GP circuit back in June at round three saw Winfield experience a tough weekend, he continued to battle a reoccurring arm pump issue which saw him fade away from strong positions in both races.

He has now fully recovered from a mid-season operation and is eager to get out on track on Friday morning, with ambitions of scoring his first points of the season in Sunday’s race at the 2.4 mile Kent venue.

Shaun Winfield: “It’s exciting to be heading to Brands Hatch again, it’s got to be the best track on the calendar, and it suits our bike quite well so I’m looking forward to Friday morning.

“When we visited in the middle of the year I was still plagued with arm pump, but I’m back to full fitness now and it will be great to show what I can actually do around there. We started our project with Honda at Brands Hatch in 2019, and the bike has come on leaps and bounds since then so I’m excited to get started.

“The season hasn’t gone the way I wanted but I’m looking forward to making a solid end to the Championship, and giving the team, our sponsors and my personal sponsors something to smile about.”

Team manager Gary Winfield: “We’re really looking forward to this weekend for many reasons, but mainly because Brands Hatch is one of Shaun’s favourite tracks on the calendar and he arrives in good health.

“We had a solid race here earlier in the year, but his arm pump continued to cause issues, so with that behind him we’re hoping for a better weekend. The weather is probably going to play its part, but it will be the same for everyone. We want to end the season on a high and give something back to our sponsors and partners, who knows we might have something exciting up our sleeves.”
