Positive Donington qualifying for Santander Salt TAG Racing
Dan Linfoot and Shaun Winfield enjoyed a positive Datatag Extreme Qualifying session at Donington Park, with Linfoot securing a fourth row start for Sunday’s opening race and Winfield posting his fastest lap around the Derbyshire circuit.
Following an interrupted set of free practice sessions due to tricky conditions, both riders headed into the three-tier session high in confidence.
Q1 saw Winfield post a new personal best around his home circuit, after pitting for new tyres, he notched up a 1:31.325, just nine tenths shy of making it through in to Q2, which would line him up in 25th on the grid for Sunday’s opening race.
After progressing quickly through the opening session, Linfoot headed into the second session confident of achieving a strong grid spot for the opening race.
The 31-year-old pitted for a new rear tyre and after improving once again in time, he just missed out on Q3 by three tenths of a second, lining him up in 12th for Sunday’s opening race.
Dan Linfoot: “I’m fairly pleased with how that session has gone, I’m not best pleased with 12th but it’s not the end of the world. We have had a lack of dry track time this weekend, but this morning we made some progress with how the bike feels after the changes the team have made.
“We still have a little bit of work to do over night but I’m fairly confident we can get it right for tomorrow. Who knows what the weather will bring, it looks fairly bad from what I’ve seen but we’ll take it as it comes and I’ll be pushing hard that’s for sure.”
Shaun Winfield: “I’m really happy with that session, to beat my personal best around here is something I’m proud of because we’ve had a lack of dry track time this weekend. We’ve worked hard to get the feeling much better with the bike, and the changes that the team have made have worked well.
“Tomorrow could be really tough with the conditions but I’m ready to give it a good go, I need to get away at the start and see what happens from there but I’m feeling really confident at the minute.”
