Third row start for Linfoot at Donington Park
Santander Salt TAG Racing’s Dan Linfoot will start Saturday afternoon’s opening race from ninth on the grid after progressing into the final stage of qualifying with his fastest lap of the weekend. Shaun Winfield missed the session following a crash at Craner Curves in the morning’s third free practice session, but will however start the race.
Linfoot quickly progressed in to the second stage of qualifying, posting his fastest lap of the weekend on his opening flying lap.
The Yorkshireman looked to be dropping out of the action at the second stage, however after a quick pit-stop for a brand new Pirelli SC0, he went faster once again posting a 1:06.232 sending him straight into the final stage of the session.
Q3 saw the 30-year-old fail to improve in time after being forced to run his Q2 rear tyre, which would see him line up at the foot of the third row in ninth place, just behind former MotoGP racer Hector Barbara.
Shaun would start the opening of three races from 26th on the grid.
Dan Linfoot: “I’ll take it but I’m not particularly pleased because you always want more in this game, but it was certainly better to be in Q3 than not. I used my last tyre in Q2, so in Q3 I had to do the best I could with what we had, but we’ve made a bigger step today than we did yesterday.
“Whether it’s come from changes we’ve made overnight or whether I’ve thought about it more last night but myself and the team combined have come up with something good. I’m looking forward to the race now, there’s no question about it I need to get points on the board and come home with a good finish.”
Shaun Winfield:“Firstly I need to say a big thanks to my side of the garage, they’re still working hard to get the bike repaired after my off in FP3, and they haven’t stopped. I’ve had a difficult weekend so far, I’ve struggled to find my feet and we’re making changes to keep improving.
“The crash was a strange one, I was on my first flying lap as I headed into Craner Curves, I hit something on the track and I went down. We’ll be out for the first race, and I’m going all out to get some points.”
Saturday’s first race is shown live on Quest from 4pm, tune in to see how Dan and Shaun get on.
