Linfoot and Winfield aim to build momentum at Oulton Park
Santander Salt TAG Racing duo of Dan Linfoot and Shaun Winfield are ready to build momentum this weekend at round of the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park, in the Bank Holiday bonanza. This weekend will also see the return of Chris ‘Stalker’ Walker to racing action, as he begins the 2019 Molson British Sidecar Championship for Santander Salt TAG Racing.
Following a solid opening round at Silverstone for the Swadlincote based outfit, where Dan Linfoot picked up valuable championship points after a 12th and tenth place finish in both races, the team are out to launch an early attack on the showdown.
The team enjoyed a strong test at the 2.6-mile Cheshire circuit last week, where Dan and Shaun found a strong base setting onboard their Yamaha YZF-R1’s, after overcoming the brake issues that hindered the pair at the opening round.
Linfoot, who achieved his first Bennetts British Superbike victory at Oulton Park in 2016, heads to Cheshire in a confident mood after topping the test wet conditions, and is ready to attack as he looks to move his way in to the Showdown spots.
After a frustrating race day at Silverstone, Winfield enjoyed a solid test at Oulton Park where he worked hard on his feeling with the Ohlins suspension around the undulating roller-coaster ride. The 25-year-old is ready to pick his first points up of the 2019 season after retiring from both races at Silverstone.
This weekend see’s the return of the Molson British Sidecar Championship with Santander Salt TAG Racing aiming to collect their first victory of the year.
Chris Walker makes his return to action after an 18-month break following injury, and ‘Stalker’ and partner Tom Christie are ready to rumble at Oulton Park.
Oulton Park is one of the most exciting circuits on the calendar, with elevation changes and fast and flowing corners, the 2.6-mile track is a favourite with the fans and riders alike.
Dan Linfoot: “I’m really excited ahead of the weekend, we had quite a strong opening round and taking in to consideration the issues we had in the races I feel like we’ve got a good base to be quite fast.
“Oulton has been quite a good track for me in the past and after the test there last week we resolved the issues from Silverstone, and I believe we can be strong. I hope the weather can be kind to us and that we can have a strong weekend.
“I love Oulton, I’ve had good results there, but that’s not to say I’m going to be winning this weekend. My targets, which are pretty similar to round one, is to have a couple of consistent top five’s again. They were the aim at Silverstone, but we didn’t really get the chance to show that.
“If I can walk away with a couple of strong rides again, a load of points, get myself back in to the top six then I would say we’ve had good weekend.
“But, if I can go further than that and grab a podium then I’d be over the moon, but I want to keep my feet on the ground and stick to my goals.”
Shaun Winfield: “I’m really excited ahead of the weekend at Oulton Park, I’m out for revenge after a frustrating two races at Silverstone. I felt really strong during free practice and qualifying so I want to carry that momentum into round two.
“The test went really well for me, we worked hard on the feeling with the suspension because I’m still getting my head around how it works and feels on track, but we are certainly getting there.
“My aim this weekend is to get two strong points finishes. I feel it’s within my reach and I have confidence in myself to prove that out on track.”
Chris ‘Stalker’ Walker: “I’m really looking forward to getting back out on track at Oulton, it’s been a long time coming after 18 months out the saddle.
“It’s all different for me this year and the championship has changed considerably since I last raced in it. I’m racing a 600cc engine instead of 1000cc which is something new for me.
“I have a new passenger in young Tom Christie, who I’m getting on with really well, but we still have work to do after limited track time together. Our testing programme has gone well and I’m fairly confident with a good run through practice and qualifying we can have a strong weekend at Oulton.
“The support I’ve had to come back racing after the long lay-off has been amazing and it’s definitely helped with motivation to come back strong and try to regain the sort of form that has kept me Stalking for so many years.” #OldButGold
Team manager Gary Winfield: “On review we made good progress at Silverstone, and after repairing the brake issues we encounted I feel confident ahead of the weekend at Oulton Park.
“Last week’s test was positive for both Dan and Shaun, we have found a good direction in set-up for the pair and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do.
“Dan is very happy with the progress we are making together, after leading the second race at Silverstone with the issues we had and leading the wet session at Oulton we can sense something good is on the horizon.
“Shaun is making great progress and we all feel he’ll be challenging strongly for the points in both races on Monday.
“I’m also excited to see the sidecar out on track, it’s been a lot of hard work for everyone and I hope we can see Chris and Tom on the podium.”
