Anvil Hire TAG Racing aim for podium success at the ‘Cathedral of Speed’
The Anvil Hire TAG Racing team head to Europe and the TT Circuit Assen in a confident mood as they aim for to return to the podium at the penultimate round of the 2018 Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
Following a challenging weekend two weeks ago in Cheshire at Oulton Park, where James Ellison collected solid points and Shaun Winfield battled through set-up issues, and a crash in Sunday’s opening race, the pair head to Holland fully focussed on achieving a strong end to 2018.
James Ellison heads to Assen full of confidence after a finding an improved feeling onboard his machine in both wet and dry conditions last time out, and is fully focussed on making a return to the podium at one of his favourite tracks.
The 38-year-old Cumbrian has enjoyed much success at the ‘Cathedral of Speed’, with a third and fifth place finishes in 2017, James is expecting more of the same as he returns to the Netherlands.
Shaun Winfield travels to Europe with a lot of confidence, as he aims to add to his Championship points tally.
The 25-year-old has recovered well from his bruising weekend at Oulton Park and is ready to fight at one of his favourite tracks on the calendar.
James Ellison: “I’m really excited ahead of this weekend, Assen is a great circuit and it holds very special memories for me. I always love racing in front of the Dutch fans and certainly the hardy BSB fans who travel across.
“I know the team have been working extremely hard behind the scenes at the workshop, and we’ve found something that we believe will help us this weekend. The Yamaha suits Assen really well, the power delivery aids itself nicely to the fast and flowing nature of the track, and I can’t wait to see how the improvements will help us.
“I want to get back on the podium this weekend, the recent results haven’t been what myself and the team expect, and I want to give them and my fans something to cheer about.”
Shaun Winfield: “I can’t wait to get back racing this weekend, Assen is a great circuit and it’s one I love to ride around. The make up of the track suits itself well to our bike with the fast and flowing nature of the circuit, and I’m hoping to be strong from Friday morning.
“I want to come back to the UK with points, I’ve had my best season to date and I want to keep improving because I’m full of confidence. I need to qualify stronger this weekend because that will help me in the races, as my race pace isn’t far off.”
Team manager Gary Winfield: “We’re looking forward to this weekend at Assen, it’s important that we get back to winning ways before the season is out because as a team we know our results haven’t been good enough.
“We have made changes to the bikes for this weekend that we feel we help and improve our overall package. James is fully focussed to get back to the front, he wants to dice and mix it up with the Showdown men, which he is fully capable of doing and the changes we have made should enable him to do that.
“As a team we want points from Shaun, and he has his sights firmly set on that. We enjoyed a successful trip here last year, and we’re aiming for more of the same as we return.”
