After mixed fortunes last time out at Thruxton, both Anvil Hire TAG Racing riders James Ellison and Shaun Winfield are out to impress at Cadwell Park this weekend, with James Ellison fully focused on picking up maximum points as he hunts for a top six spot.
Cadwell Park plays host to round eight of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, with James Ellison and Shaun Winfield aiming to pick up maximum points at one of the most exciting tracks on the calendar.51 points is the gap that Ellison has to close down to move himself into the top six, and two race wins at one of his favourite circuits will place him back in the frame for a showdown place.

The Cumbrian was victorious at the ‘Party in the Park’ last season, taking a hard-fought victory in race two, and the former MotoGP rider is planning on making an assault on the top six this weekend. The team have taken delivery of new parts ahead of the meeting, as they aim to eradicate the rear grip issues that has plagued Ellison and plan on bringing home more silverware this weekend.

Shaun Winfield heads into this weekend high in confidence after his best performance of the season last time out at Thruxton. The 25-year-old feels he has improved his setting onboard his machine, and is ready to take advantage of two years’ worth of data collected at Cadwell Park to add to his 2018 Championship points tally.

James Ellison: “There isn’t much between the points because of a lot of other riders have had up and down seasons, with not being in the points and DNF’s. We also haven’t had the greatest of seasons, with things not going our way but it is really close.

“We have been really focussed on addressing the rear grip issue, and I know the team have been working hard, working through all the settings, scenarios and data from all the other rounds to pinpoint where the problem is, which we are trying to fix, and the guys feel they found something that could be the issue.

“It’s not a huge thing, it’s a small area on the exit of the corner where it doesn’t hook up and the other guys just get away, which is every corner, every lap. It’s about getting the package to work this weekend; it’s like making a cake and you need all the ingredients to be right. The suspension, fuel mapping and engine braking, if one thing isn’t right or gelling then you’re midfield. We’re not far away, and it’s only one thing that we are looking for and hopefully we have found something.”

Shaun Winfield: I’m heading into this weekend with lots of confidence after the last round, I’m feeling more and more confident each time I head out on the bike and we’ve found a good setup for me.

“Cadwell is a very unique piece of tarmac, it’s like no circuit we go too but we have two year’s worth of data to go on from so we’re starting from a good position. I want to pick up where I left off at Thruxton, I want points and I’m confident it’s achievable. I like the track, it’s fast and flowing, but the second half of the circuit tests you as a rider, but I’ve enjoyed some good motocross training and I’m ready for The Mountain!”

Team manager Gary Winfield: “We’re looking forward to this weekend at Cadwell, it’s a fantastic circuit and it’s certainly unique. It’s going to take a lot for us to close down the points gap to the top six, but we won’t stop trying. We have new parts to try this weekend, which we expect to help in our assault on the showdown.

“The least we want from this weekend is two podiums from James, and points from Shaun. We want to go into the final four rounds of the season as strong as possible and throw a spanner into the works.
