Anvil Hire TAG Racing aiming to bounce back at Big Brands Bash
The Anvil Hire TAG Racing team this weekend head South to the ‘Garden of England’, Kent, and to the Brands Hatch GP circuit with both James Ellison and Shaun Winfield are aiming to bounce back after a challenging weekend last time out in Scotland
Following a challenging weekend at Knockhill two weeks ago, the Anvil Hire TAG Racing outfit are aiming to stamp their authority as ‘Showdown’ contenders, with James Ellison aiming to replicate his 2016 double victory, and claw his way back into the all-important top six.
Ellison currently sits in 12th place of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, only 47 points outside of the showdown places and he knows a double race victory this weekend will improve his Championship standing, as the season hits the mid-way point.
The Cumbrian ‘did the double’ at this circuit at the last round of the 2016 season, and is confident the upgrades that the team have received will help at the 2.4 mile circuit.
Team mate Shaun Winfield has set his sights on picking up a strong haul of points, at one of his favourite tracks on the calendar.
Winfield, who last time out progressed with the set-up of his Anvil Hire TAG Racing machine is aiming to improve once again at the mecca of British motorsport and walk with a bag of points, giving himself the perfect 25th birthday present.
James Ellison: “I’m looking forward to this weekend because we have left the last few rounds with disappointing results for various different reasons, and I’m looking to change that. We have the pace, but we are still lacking a few tenths, and that will come from me and the bike working together, and I’ve got to the get the best out of the package.
“We are still experimenting with a few things to get those extra few tenths and I’m confident we are going to find that, I want it to happen soon. We have made a few changes to the bike which we tried at Donington Park last week, and there were benefits in areas that we needed it, but we still have work to do at Brands and work from where we are, which will get us back to the sharp end.”
Shaun Winfield: “I love Brands Hatch, certainly the GP circuit, it’s a great circuit that just flows. From the first corner to the last, I have a smile on my face each and every lap. I’m really looking forward to this weekend, I want to get back in the points and improve on my Championship position.
“The bike is working well, but I know where I have to improve, and that is in qualifying. We improved vastly last time out with how went about the session, so this weekend I want to carry that momentum on, because it’s clear, a stronger grid position will help for both races.
“I want to walk away with a strong points haul, I know I can do that and that is my sole aim because my side of the garage deserve it for how hard they work.“
Team Manager Gary Winfield: “This weekend we are ready to bounce back, it’s tough to take because the last few rounds we have worked hard as a team, but unfortunately the results just haven’t surfaced, which we expect to improve the bike. We have worked hard since we returned from Scotland, and we have new parts to assess on Friday at Brands Hatch.
“James is fully focused on walking away with a maximum set of points, because for the Championship it is vital for him and the team, we’re not far away from the Showdown but we have to start building momentum because we are running out of time. Points is what we want from Shaun, he’s fully capable of it and he’s shown that so we believe that come Sunday he’ll walk away happy.“
