Anvil Hire TAG Racing ready for bank holiday bonanza
Derbyshire based Anvil Hire TAG Racing are ready to come out fighting at round three of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Cheshire’s Oulton Park, with James Ellison aiming to make a return to the winner’s enclosure and Shaun Winfield aiming for his first points of the 2018 campaign
After a short break from action, both James Ellison and Shaun Winfield return to racing action this bank holiday weekend at the fans favourite track, Oulton Park. And after a challenging race day last time out at Brands Hatch, both are looking to prove a point.
The Cumbrian, who has enjoyed some down time back in the USA with his family has flown back to the UK fully focussed on bringing home the goods come Monday afternoon. Ellison has enjoyed success at the Cheshire track and is in a confident mood, as he feels he’s almost at one with his machine.
Following a difficult weekend at Brands Hatch 24-year-old Shaun Winfield is out to bring home his first points of the season, following a good break where he has continued to work on his fitness. He enjoyed a solid test at the 2.6-mile woodland based track, where he found a positive base to work from with his Yamaha YZF-R1.
Oulton Park is a real fans favourite that guarantees to provide close action on track. Based in the heart of Cheshire, the circuit has fast and flowing sections, that are teamed with tight and twisty sections which are a favourite with the most riders on the Bennetts BSB grid.
James Ellison: “I’m really excited for this weekend, I was very jealous of everyone that tested at Oulton Park last week, it’s not like I need to learn the circuit but every track I go to is new with the bike and it would have been beneficial for me to go there but I had been away from my family for two months and it was the only opportunity I could get to go over.
“I’m really comfortable on the bike anyway, so I’m not overly stressed about missing out on the test, it’s like the others have had another free practice session. All that means is that I’ll have to pull my finger out on Friday, work hard and get the bike set up fairly early so we’re not behind schedule. We’ve been in the top three at every track we’ve been too so far, so I’m not worried at all.
“Where I’m at with the bike now is all we’re doing is making small tweaks, so it’s just a case of putting in a lot of laps, getting up to speed and if we’re not up there on Saturday we certainly will be on Sunday and we’ll be there come Monday.”
Shaun Winfield: “I’m looking forward to this weekend, it’s great to get back racing and certainly at a track like Oulton Park, it’s a fantastic place. At the test there last week we found something really positive set-up wise with the bike, I felt much more comfortable and we’re going into the weekend with that to build on.
“Oulton Park is a great track, it has everything a rider wants. Fast and flowing sections that head straight into tight and technical chicanes that test you as rider. It’s one I look forward to going to each year, and this year is no different. I want to be in the points this weekend, and there is no reason why I can’t, so come Monday I’ll be pushing as hard as ever to achieve my goals.”
Gary Winfield: “It’s great to be able to get racing again, although it’s only been a few weeks it’s felt like a lifetime, purely because of the way our luck fell at Brands Hatch. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to improve the package, and we’re confident we found something at the Oulton Park test.
“James has enjoyed some quality time with his family back in Texas, which has certainly recharged his batteries and he’s raring to go this weekend so we’re expecting a strong performance from him. And it’s the same with Shaun, he’s trained well and he’s very happy after the recent test, because he found something extra that we can build on throughout the weekend.”
