Positive progression shown in Qualifying at Oulton Park for Anvil Hire Yamaha
James Rispoli and Shaun Winfield will line up in 26th and 29th for this afternoon’s first race at Oulton Park, after improving once again in time in the cool conditions.
Rispoli headed out in the three tier session after working hard overnight with his team on the setup of his Yamaha YZF-R1 high in confidence, and straight away improved in time.
However, due to the competitive pace of the MCE British Superbike Championship, Rispoli couldn’t bridge the gap to the front men, who all posted times under the race lap record.
The American posted a 1:36.5, his fastest lap of the weekend by four tenths of a second, only six tenths of a second behind Ryuichi Kiyonari in 20th place.
Shaun Winfield also improved in time, knocking off seven tenths of a second from his best lap of the weekend, to leave him in 29th for this afternoon’s race which is broadcast live at 4:00.
After the session Rispoli said: “We’re trying to be positive, it’s tough out there, the top guys are going faster and most are under the race lap record, so for us it is a little bit of a struggle. Unfortunately, I just can’t seem to find the time, I feel like we’ve hit a brick wall and I can’t go any quicker, and this place does that to you.
“We are going to make a couple of changes for the race and then just see how that goes. I normally get good starts, and I’ve got to get stuck in with the front guys.”
Shaun Winfield added: “I’m happy with my pace, but again not my position. I’ve gone faster again, and taken a big chunk of time off my lap time from yesterday which is positive. 29th really isn’t where we need to be, but I know I can get a good start and get stuck into the field in the first few laps.”
