Tough qualifying for Anvil Hire Yamaha at Cadwell Park
It was a challenging qualifying session for the Anvil Hire Yamaha duo of James Rispoli and Shaun Winfield who were knocked out in the first session in 20th and 30th place respectively, with Rispoli narrowly missing out on Q2.
Following the morning’s final free practice session ‘The Rocket’ was confident of making into Q2 after improving once again in time. He improved further in the short 12-minute dash, posting a 1:28.413, improving by half a second once again.
However, it wasn’t enough to send him into Q2, missing out by eight tenths of a second leaving him in 20th place for tomorrow’s first race.
His team mate Shaun Winfield also improved in the morning’s free practice session, posting his fastest ever lap around the Lincolnshire based track, a 1:29.773. However, in qualifying he posted his lap on his own, only 0.3 off his best lap of the weekend, but it just wasn’t enough to move him up the grid.
After the session a frustrated Shaun Winfield said: “It didn’t really go to plan, I knew I could do an alright lap time on my own but ideally I was looking for someone to chase down, I went out behind a few guys but they sat up and let the rest of us go.
“So I had to do the lap on my own, I was only 0.3 off what I did this morning, it’s not where I want to be but it just means I’ve got to get my elbows out and get a good start in the race and pick up some places quickly.”
Tomorrow’s first race will be broadcast on Eurosport at 12:50, with race two live at 4:50.
